Crossovers

The Television crossover. Some love it, some hate it. TV studios sometimes love to mesh shows at times, and have charcaters from one show appear on another. Most find it ridiculous and stupid, while others just love the idea of seeing charcaters from two of their favorite shows interacting and exchanging dialogue with each other. Most of the time, crossovers are done with shows that have had spin-offs like Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, while shows that are unrelated like Bones and Family Guy do the deed. I`m not against the crossover, but I`d like to have a good reason for why two unrelated shows are coming together, story wise. But the main reason for related and unrelated crossovers may be to peek interest in both shows, there are plenty of people out there who watch a show but not its spin-off or vise versa, and people who watch both. If you take a charcater from either show stick it in a crossover episode and bring viewers that normaly would watch said show, they maybe just get interested and start watching that show. Although its probably not that simple., but hopefully you can see what I`m getting at.

A crossover I`d really like to see is Bones and House. Two shows I really like with funny characters that could do well together, how they would do it? I have no idea.

TV Networks

When you think of TV networks or channels the big ones that come to mind are NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox. Each network has at least one show that you or me are interested in and we watch said show on a weekly basis. Then you see a promo for a show that looks great in quality and you watch it, like it and continue to view it week after week. Then maybe 3 or 4 weeks after this really great show airs it gets cancelled by the network and why? Low Ratings. A lot of channels nowadays just promote the hell out of something air it and just give it a couple of weeks to perform and if not then down comes the axe. They don't care about Quality, just the money and the ratings. Reality shows are a prime example, they suck ass but for some reason people seem to be obsessed with them so they get a new season pick up year after year. They get about 20 million viewers an episode, you can pretty well guarntee it is gonna be around for a while. The Big 4 networks I mentioned earlier are all like that. The truth is not all the channels are like that. Channels such as HBO and Showtime are the opposite. They care about Quality. Don't believe me? Watch Six Feet Under, Entourage, Dexter, Weeds, and True Blood. All great shows that don't get alot of ratings but each one is critically acclaimed. Amazing writing goes into each show and there isn't filler episodes that drag down most of the season. If a show is on either HBO or Showtime they are basically guaranteed to be on at least 2 to 3 years while shows on the other channels would be lucky to get 2 to 3 episodes. Fox is the worst one for canceling shows. I'd list all the shows that Fox has canceled prematurely but I have to sleep at some point. Take Firefly for example, now I know I'm not alone on this, but Fox stuck the good quality Firefly on Friday nights which is basically the place where shows go to die and re arranged the episodes out of order and then shit canned it because of poor ratings. Truth be told, everyone at the Fox network is an idiot. Their expectations are way to high and we have to pay for it. Now I certainly can't go into every fault that every TV station has b/c I would be here forever. I'm just here stating what I think and know is true. Its all business with most. Not entertainment.

This was my first blog post and I apologize for the spelling mistakes, the all over the place stuff, and if it seems a bit jumbled, again I'm sorry. I don't even know if any of this makes sense, but at 2:21am everything makes sense.
